A Major Chapter in OC Surf History
December 19, 2025
A major chapter in OC surf history is officially turning the page.
According to the OC Register, it’s official — the Surf Heritage and Culture Center (SHACC) in San Clement closed escrow on Monday 14 December on its new location at 239 Broadway in Laguna Beach (the old Laguna Drug/Sprouse-Reitz site). OC World announced the move earlier this year. SHACC was opened in 1999 by Dick Metz and a group of founding partners. It moved to San Clemente in 2004 and over the years has been referred to as the “Smithsonian” for the surf culture.
