OC World as Finalists in Annual ‘Excellence in Journalism’ Contest

Announces Collaboration with OC World

Manuel Gomez, Joone Kim-Lopez, and Scott Hays have been named finalists in the OC Press Club’s 2023 Awards contest for outstanding Orange County journalism.

OC World competed with journalists, writers, and reporters from Los Angeles Times, Orange County Register, Orange County Business Journal, and other print/digital publications.

Winners will be announced at the OC Press Club’s Awards Gala 15 June 2023 at the Clubhouse at Anaheim Hills.
Since its formal launch in March of 2022, OC World has interviewed such influential leaders as Wade Crowfoot, Calif. Secretary Natural Resources Agency; Erwin Chemerinsky, Dean of UC Berkeley Law School; former Los Angeles Mayor and newly appointed Infrastructure Advisor Antonio Villaraigosa; Andrew Yang, 2020 presidential candidate and now co-chair of The Forward Party; Santa Ana Mayor Valerie Amezcua; giant-screen documentary producer Greg MacGillivray; CalOptima Health CEO Michael Hunn; and California Assemblyman Robert Rivas and U.S. Congressman Mike Levin, among many others.

These programs have been viewed roughly 80,000 times on the OC World YouTube channel.

OC World has also produced documentary shorts on the COVD 19 impact on California farmworkers, on the state’s vanishing beaches (which earned “Best of Festival Award” at the 2022 Los Angeles Television, Script & Film Festival); on Hate Crimes, Immigration Reform, Drought and Water Insecurities, and California Infrastructure; and on Alzheimer’s disease, which earned a Golden Mike at the 73rd Annual Golden Mike Awards.
