OC World’s latest newsletter spotlights Scott Hays’ OCBJ Leader Board column, where he discusses the urgent need for community-backed local media. It also celebrates Hays being named one of Orange County’s 500 Most Influential Leaders in this year’s OCBJ Directory of Influence. The issue features an exclusive interview with District Attorney Todd Spitzer, exploring the complexities of leading one of the nation’s largest prosecutor’s offices. Rounding out the newsletter, OC World proudly announces four nominations at the National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards, including recognition for its “Giving Days in OC” program.

Orange County Community Foundation (OCCF) introduced its collaborative “Giving Days” initiative following the success of a county-wide initiative that began in 2015, which has raised more than $30 million for local nonprofits thanks to the generosity of Orange County residents. The recent “Help Them Home” campaign for the homeless is the focus of an upcoming OC World program, airing 5 p.m. Monday 30 June and now available for an “exclusive” viewing.

OC World Executive Producer Scott Hays recently interviewed Berkeley Law School Dean Erwin Chemerinsky, one of the most respected legal thinkers of our times, and a highly-regarded expert in Constitutional Law. Hear his response when asked what he thinks about the unique media model of OC World in a county of 3.2 million people that’s considered one of the largest news deserts in the nation.

For the second year in a row, OC World is nominated as a finalist in two Golden Mike Awards: Best News Talk Show or Public Affairs Show for its program titled “The Power and Awe of Music,” featuring Jake Groshong, CEO for the Playing for Change Foundation; and Best Long Form Program or Documentary for its program titled “Surviving the Trauma of Relationship Violence,” featuring Maricela Rios-Faust, CEO for Human Options. The awards will be presented by the Radio & Television News Association (RTNA) of Southern California on 29 March 2025 at the Loews Hotel in Hollywood. This year’s honorees for Lifetime Achievement Awards include Pete Demetrious with KNX News, Rob Fukuzaki with KABC, and Sam Rubin with KTLA.
