CalOptima Health is the largest Medi-Cal health insurer in Orange County serving nearly 1 million low-income children, adults, seniors, and those with disabilities. The $4 billion agency has gone through a state audit, new leadership, and now is poised to enhance its services to the most vulnerable population in the county. To share their vision in this two-part exclusive series are Clay Corwin, Chair of CalOptima Health Board of Directors; CEO Michael Hunn; and Kelly Bruno-Nelson, executive director of Medi-Cal/CalAIM.

With a decade-high record number of entries—roughly 13,000 from five continents and 50 countries—two OC World-produced documentaries were selected Winners in the 44th Annual Telly Awards!

“Coastal Crisis: California Vanishing Beaches” received the Silver Telly Award in Television – Social Responsibility, while “To Live for the Harvest” received the Bronze Telly Award in Television – Documentary Short Form.

“Coastal Crisis” focuses on how local governments and residents are dealing with the issue of coastal erosion in southern California, and the consequences of inadequate action; “To Live for the Harvest” focuses on the impact of COVID-19 on California farmworkers.

The Telly Awards is a premier award honoring video and television across all screens. Other winners this year included Disney Parks, FEMA, Golden State Warriors, NASA, and the National Geographic Society, among many others. Entrants are judged by “The Telly Awards Judging Council”—an industry body of more than 200 leading experts including advertising agencies, production companies, and major television networks.

Of course, none of this programming would have been possible without the support and encouragement of OC World’s sponsors and friends, in particular The Keith and Judy Swayne Family Foundation, The Marisla Foundation, The Orange County Community Foundation, The Cordoba Corporation, Kelly Holman Smith (Living Peace Foundation), and Ernie and Socorro Family Foundation.

Special thanks to the OC World team: Co-founder Dr. Manuel Gomez, host Joone Kim-Lopez, Dr. Mike Moodian, and the entire production staff: Dan McKechnie, Veronica Marquez, and everyone at KLCS: Jaime Jimenez, Eric & Tony & Chung & Theany . . . and Ty Woodson.
