Spring Season 2024
The Changing OC Media Landscape
OC World recently sponsored an event with OC Forum that brought together a group of diverse journalists to discuss the ever-changing media landscape of Orange County: Gustavo Arellano – reporter / columnist, Los Angeles Times; Ashley Alvarado – vice president community engagement, LAist; Rick Reiff – editor-at-large, OC Business Journal; and Todd Harmonson – editor, Orange County Register. If indeed Orange County is one of the largest “news deserts” in the country, how do publishers and media companies continue to bring value back to their readers, viewers, and listeners?
Wildfire Season in the OC
For decades, wildfires have been a part of the natural cycle of Southern California, shaping its ecosystems and landscapes. In recent years, however, these fires have become an all-too common, leaving devastation in their wake. As Orange County faces an uncertain future when it comes to wildfire season, the need for action has never been more urgent. Through resilience, innovation, and a shared commitment to stewardship, communities need to forge a path forward, and safeguard their homes, their environments, and their way of life.
The Power and Awe of Music
“Playing for Change” was a viral video that roughly 20 years ago had a great message about the power and awe of music and philanthropy. It has been viewed more than 200 million times and it started with the great Ben E. King classic song “Stand by Me,” and it featured musicians from around the world. OC World had the opportunity to interview two visionaries who continue to raise funds to support music and arts programs in schools both locally and globally . . . Alec Glasser, owner of the Drake Restaurant in Laguna Beach and founder of The Drake Gives, and Jake Groshong, CEO for the “Playing for Change” Foundation.
OC Developer Mike Harrah – Raw and Unplugged (Part 2)
Mike Harrah is definitely not your typical developer. Along with building what ultimately will become the tallest building in Orange County, he also is a stunt pilot for Hollywood, car collector, competitive racer, and the designer of a $7 million truck called Thor. He recently was honored with the “Entrepreneur of the Year “award by Orange County Business Journal, where he was introduced as a “visionary in transforming the Orange County skyline” and as a “leading Orange County philanthropist.

Transforming the Irvine Ranch
The Irvine Ranch is nearly a hundred thousand acres in Orange County – as big as Philadelphia — three times the size of San Francisco. And what a ranch . . . in just a few decades it has been transformed into a master-planned communities of several cities and home to nearly a half million people, a thriving business community, a major university, and repeatedly ranked as one of the best and safest places to live. Today the ranch is the centerpiece of the Irvine Company—one of the nation’s biggest real estate firms. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Rick Reiff interview Mike Stockstill, co-author of a book that spans the history of of this Orange County real estate and its storied family legacy.
Fall Season 2024
OC World will be in production-mode this summer as it prepares 12 original programs for the Fall 2024 season (during these three months, KLCS-PBS will be airing programs produced by the Los Angeles Unified School District). Until then, we will continue to distribute our newsletter with announcements and updates, post shows and video clips on our website and various social media platforms, strengthen our collaborations, and work to broaden our reach into the community.
