Orange County Community Foundation’s 2025 Annual Meeting brought together roughly 650 community leaders, partners, and philanthropists to celebrate its accomplishments and share its goals for the future. OC World was honored at that event to be recognized as a new media partner for a six-part documentary series titled “The Power of Community,” which will air this year on KLCS-PBS. Dick Metz has spent decades protecting surf history. Now SHACC is entering its next chapter. Legendary surfer Dick Metz opened The Surf Heritage and Culture Center (SHACC) in 1999. It moved to San Clemente in 2004. SHACC has been referred to as the “Smithsonian” for the surf culture. Last December, SHACC closed escrow on an historic building at 239 Broadway downtown Laguna Beach. The move is funded by donations and the sale of the San Clemente property, with strong community and industry backing. 🎥 SHACC Executive Director Jeff Alter explains what the future of the heritage and culture center will look like when it opens summer 2026.

18th Annual National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards

OC World won three awards at the 18th Annual National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards, including first place for Soft News Feature, TV/Streaming (Under 5 Minutes) for its program  “Down for Dance”. Judges commented that it was an “excellent feature… concise and heartfelt” that perfectly delivered an “inspiring story… that empowers people through arts and culture,” making it a polished and moving piece of journalism. OC World was additionally honored with two third-place awards: Soft News Feature, TV/Streaming (Over 5 Minutes) for Giving Days in OC, and Best Use of Social Media to Tell or Enhance a Story for  Early IMAX Camera with Greg MacGillivray. Last year, OC World received a second-place honor in the category of Documentary or Special Program, Short (Under 30 Minutes) for Surviving the Trauma of Relationship Violence, and a third-place honor for Soft News Feature, Music/Arts/Culture (Over 5 Minutes) for  “The Power and Awe of Music”. A Major Chapter in OC Surf History

A major chapter in OC surf history is officially turning the page. According to the OC Register, it’s official — the Surf Heritage and Culture Center (SHACC) in San Clement closed escrow on Monday 14 December on its new location at 239 Broadway in Laguna Beach (the old Laguna Drug/Sprouse-Reitz site). OC World announced the move earlier this year. SHACC was opened in 1999 by Dick Metz and a group of founding partners. It moved to San Clemente in 2004 and over the years has been referred to as the “Smithsonian” for the surf culture. Read the full story
